Web Platform & Database Development - Animal Shelter Adoption System
Case Study
Problem
The animal shelter relied on a static website and manual processes to manage pet listings, adoption statuses, and volunteer engagement. Information was frequently outdated, staff lacked a centralized system to manage records, and prospective adopters faced a fragmented, unclear experience.
Approach
I designed and developed a database-driven web platform to centralize adoption data and streamline internal workflows. This included building a relational SQL database to track pet statuses (available, pending, adopted) and creating secure, role-based employee logins so staff could update records directly without technical intervention.
Using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and server-side scripting, I redesigned the website’s information architecture and user flows to align with both operational needs and user behavior, ensuring the system was intuitive for staff while remaining accessible for the public.
Solution
The final solution was a dynamic, maintainable web system that integrated backend data management with a redesigned front-end experience. Staff gained a reliable internal tool for managing adoption data, while adopters and volunteers were guided through clearer, more efficient pathways.
Impact
Centralized adoption data, reducing manual updates and inconsistencies
Improved operational efficiency through real-time database management
Enhanced usability for both internal staff and external users
Created a scalable foundation for future features and reporting
